Mixed berries
A blend of two or more berries — commonly strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries — sold fresh or frozen together for recipes that want variety without buying each kind separately.
Used for
- smoothies
- desserts
- oatmeal toppings
- salads
In the kitchen
- thaw and drain frozen mix before folding into batter to avoid excess liquid
- toss whole or halved into salads
- macerate with a little sugar to draw out juice
Picking it at the store
- Frozen mixed-berry bags are usually cheaper and just as good for baking and smoothies as buying each berry separately fresh
- Check the bag for ice clumping, a sign of thawing and refreezing that affects texture
